FACT(s) (Environment):

Fathom High Availability Replication 1.0A

SYMPTOM(s):

Cannot shutdown database

Proshut process hangs

CAUSE:

During the startup of Fathom Replication, database connections are disabled until Fathom Replication startup and initialization phases are completed.

In order to shutdown a Progress database, proshut must connect to it.

If a problem happen during the startup and initialization phase of Fathom Replication, proshut and all other process trying to connect to the database (including Progress utilities) will hang.

FIX:

If the startup and initialization phase of Fathom Replication could not be completed, shutdown the database using the following command:

proshut <db-name> -byF

This command will start a force shutdown on the database and might cause the replication to fail because the source and target databases are not identical anymore. Follow the steps described on the Fathom Replication manual ·Starting Fathom Replication· to restart the replication again.
