Lock table is full. (7870)
Breaking the query into smaller segments works fine.
Promon shows that the locking table high water mark is at the current size of the locking table.

CAUSE:
The -L startup parameter, which sets the number of locks available in the lock table for a database, is set too low.
FIX:
Increase the -L startup parameter of the database, to a value in-line with their needs.
