GOAL:

Can I dump and load my database via a Citrix ICA client?

FACT(s) (Environment):

Citrix MetaFrame (for Windows 2000 Terminal Server)
Citrix MetaFrame (for Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Server)

FIX:

For performance reasons and to excessive network traffic, Progress recommends that database dump and load operations be performed directly on the box where the database resides.
In a Citrix environment clients that are accessing the server using Citrix MetaFrame ICA client have all their processes being executed locally on the Citrix server. If a Progress/OpenEdge session is running connected to a database locally on the Citrix server the only traffic between the Windows running the Citrix MetaFrame ICA client and the Citrix server will be the application screen.
In this environment, a dump/load operation will be considered local because the process is running on the same box as the database, therefore the records will not be sent to the local Windows client.
It is also recommended to dump the .DF and .D files to the Citrix MetaFrame server's local disk and not to a mapped network drive or shared drive.
