Cannot Use V8 Data Dictionary for V7 Database Schema Changes
*********************** Release Note *********************************
Cannot Use Ver 8 Data Dictionary for Ver 7 Database Schema Changes
Release Note Numebr - 80AC-20170
The underlying PROGRESS database metaschema for Version 8 differs from
Version 7. Therefore, you cannot use the Version 8 Data Dictionary to
make changes to Version 7 database schemas.
Workaround: There are three workarounds to this issue:
* If your copy of PROGRESS Version 8 is an update to Version 7, you
can use a copy of PROGRESS Version 7 to make changes to Version 7
database schema.
* Use the Version 7 Data Administration tool that comes with your
Version 7 Database Server product to make changes to Version 7
database schema.
* If you want to edit Version 7 database schema from within the
Version 8 development environment, you can obtain a copy of the
"V8DD7" patch from Progress Technical Support. The V8DD7 patch
contains a copy of the Version 7 Data Dictionary that has been
recompiled under Version 8 so that you can execute it within the
Version 8 client and make changes to remote Version 7 database
schemas.
After you install the V8DD7 patch, you have two Data Dictionary
tools under Version 8--one for editing Version 7 schemas (the
patch) and one for editing Version 8 schemas (commercial V8).
You can obtain V8DD7 by downloading it from Progress Software
Corporation's FTP site -- point your web browser to:
ftp://ftp.progress.com
The files for the V8dd7 patch are in the pub/v8dd7 directory there.
Note: There are two different versions of V8dd7. One is for use
with 16-bit version 8 (8.0 or 8.1) and one is for use with 32-bit
version 8 (8.2). There is a subdirectory under pub/v8dd7 for each
version which contains a zip file with the patch and a readme file
with instructions for installing and configuring it.
