SYMPTOM(s):
Running Progress Character Client.
Created a browser object that contains more cells than what can be seen in the viewport.
Scrolling the browser with cursor keys.
The amount of characters scrolled do not match the number of characters of the left most column, meaning that some characters are left in view.
Left cursor key does not scroll the browser to the left the first time it is pressed.
Sometimes, it is necessary to hit the cursor-left key several times before moving to the previous cell in the browser.
Scrolling with the arrow keys to the left and to the right works just fine under GUI.
CAUSE:
This is just the way the character mode browser was designed. Basically, it is a Vermont Views limitation in that each column of a TTY browse is a separate Vermont Views "form", and the position cursor (which is different from the screen cursor) has to "leap" from form to form each time the cursor key is pressed. There are some complications imposed by Vermont Views that make it very difficult and error-prone to try and achieve this. However, it would be nice if the TTY and GUI browsers were in sync, so an enhancement request has been entered to accomplish this functionality.
