SYMPTOM(s):
Upwards of 400 users connected to database via stateless appserver connections
Client connections last only couple of seconds
New users unable to connect to database
Java.exe running at 100% in Task Manager
Process Explorer from Sysinternals.com showed java.exe associated with appservers.
The java.exe process at 100% of cpu disappears when appservers shutdown.
CHANGE:
Moved to a new multi-processor Windows 2000 server
CAUSE:
Lack of available database resources (latches) for client load
FIX:
Add -spin startup parameter for the database.
