GOAL:

Can resources for SQL queries be limited?

GOAL:

Can the system load for SQL queries be tuned?

GOAL:

Has Progress any control on how system resources for SQL queries are allocated?

FACT(s) (Environment):

Progress 9.x

FIX:

Oracle, for instance, gives the DBA the possibility to limit resources used by a process.

This functionality isn't currently (as of v9) implemented in Progress.

Thus in v9 there is no possibility of influencing directly, for example, how much cpu time a process might get. Resource allocation at that level is done by the system, and isn't something Progress can influence. However, depending on how you start the databases, specify separate brokers for 4GL and SQL clients. This does spread the load somewhat.
