DOS Char Product v7.3B running on WIN95 with Netbios
You may recieve 733 error when connecting to a db server with the
v7.3B dos product running under Windows95. In order for this to
work properly, you must setup the client properly. See also
kbase: 13580 for NT server setup.
1) As always, you must be using the same NETBIOS transport across
the client and server in order for them to connect.
For example, NETBIOS over NETBEUI can **NOT** talk to an NT server
running NETBIOS over IPX on LANA 0.
2) To map NETBIOS to LANA 0 on WIN95, you need to do the following:
a) Have only one copy of NETBIOS loaded (either over NETBEUI or IPX,
not both). To see this, go into the NETWORKS applet in the
control panel. If you are using NETBEUI and NETBIOS is enabled
over IPX, disable it.
b) Select the protocol which will carry your NETBIOS as the default
protocol by selecting the Advanced tab for the protocol properties
and checking the box that says "Set this protocol to be the default
protocol". For example, to enable NETBIOS over NETBEUI, double click
the NETBEUI protocol line in the NETWORKS selection list, select
Advanced and check the box at the bottom of the screen.
c) Reboot for these changes to take effect.
3) To map NETBIOS to LANA 0 on NT, select the NETWORK applet in the
control panel, choose to configure the NETBIOS Interface service.
From here you can dynamically adjust your NETBIOS lana numbers to
match the board and protocol that you want. To support NETBIOS
over NETBEUI, select NBF-><your NIC> and change it's number to 0.
You may have to renumber the NETBIOS which is currently mapped to
0 in order to do this.
