SYMPTOM(s):

DF (definition file) on Windows has extra characters in description fields.

CAUSE:

This seems to be a facet of the operating system.
Windows puts a CR\LF (carriage return and line feed) when a new line is requested.

Unix only puts a LF

If a DF is transmitted from Windows to Unix this difference exists in the Description field if there are multiple lines for a description.

If a diff between a database which was loaded with the DF from Windows is compared to a database made from scratch on Unix, these differences may be perceived even though all the rest of the information is identical.

FIX:

Utilities exist on Unix and some 3rd-party tools exist on Windows to modify the files to correct the differences.
Often FTP tools will auto detect the operating system you are transferring the files from and to to change the files in transit if ASCII transfer type is chosen.
