GOAL:

What requirements does Windows 2000 Cluster have for its external storage resource?

GOAL:

To use Fathom Cluster for Windows, do you have to use SAN for the external storage?

FACT(s) (Environment):

Windows 2000 Advanced Server

FACT(s) (Environment):

Fathom High Availability Clusters 1.0A

FIX:

A valid cluster configuration requires that each cluster member contain more than one disk controller. Of these controllers, one must be a SCSI adapter or fiber channel interface to service the disk(s) that will be shared by the cluster members. One reason for the two adapters is to hide the disk that contains the Windows 2000 installation. Windows 2000 cannot (should not) be installed on a disk that is connected to the shared I/O controller.

If SAN is required, then you must make sure the Windows Cluster supports SAN as the shared external storage. If the storage operates as a local disk to whichever node has ownership of this, then Progress should not have any problems using this as part of the cluster, it is confirmation from the operating system or SAN vendor that such a configuration is supported.
