Creating a new Dynamic SmartDataViewer results in an 'unable to determine datasource' message if you do not add any fields to the SmartDataViewer using the Wizard, and you then try to add the fields to the blank viewer using the palette.
This only happens because you are creating the Dynamic SmartDataField manually using the Appbuilder 'File/New' menu options, and no fields were added to the SmartDataViewer in the wizard.

Save the viewer and close it. Then re-open the viewer in the Appbuilder and now it will be possible to add fields.
