Should I use an Anti-Virus package to scan my database.

GOAL:

Should I use an AntiVirus package to scan my database.

FACT(s) (Environment):

All Supported Operating Systems
Progress/OpenEdge Product Family

FIX:

Progress recommends excluding scanning of database files while the database
files (.db....dn, .bi...bn,ai...an, etc.) are in use. This can lead to the
Database Engine considering the database files as untouchable if locked by
another process which would be handled as cause for an emergency shutdown.
Performance will also be impacted due to contention for the files by the
Progress Database Engine and the antivirus package).
The database files should only be scanned when the database is not in use
and no anti-virus signature CRC should be attached to any of the database
files.

Active memory scans of a machine with Progress running on it might lead to
performance issues.

Scanning of r-code files (procedure libraries, include files, bitmaps, etc.) may lead to slower client performance.

Progress executables can be scanned but may again cause a performance issue.
