Virtual Terminals ( VTAs ) with PROGRESS on VMS

VIRTUAL TERMINALS (VTA's) with PROGRESS on VMS

The use of VIRTUAL TERMINALS allows PROGRESS to remove the
PROGRESS VTAn client smoothly because the VTAn process is
still around for a certain amount of time (TTY_TIMEOUT). If
a client comes in on RTAn line, and PROGRESS performs a $GETDVI
on all the clients and can not find the RTAn client, then
PROGRESS will treat the PID as if it disappeared. Which is
not specifically desireable. It should be noted that
PROGRESS will back out incomplete transactions in any case.

The only exception to the above scenario is if PROGRESS
detects during our contineous 60 second checking, that one
of the processes that was involuntarily terminated was
holding a vital lock. When we confirm that the missing
process was holding either the MT or DB lock, PROGRESS will
terminate the server process and remove all users.

Progress Technical Support has Knowledgebase information
on enabling Virtual Terminals (VTA's). VTA's are also
supported for use with DECNET and UCX. For complete details
on enabling VTA's see the VMS System Managemnet documentation and/or
contact Digital Equipment Corporation Support.
