What are the advantages and disadvantages of fixed versus non-fixed extents?
FIX:
Advantages of Fixed Extents:
1. PERFORMANCE
There is no OS wait of for space allocation
2. Most important, SECURITY
There is no risk of disk full
There is no risk of hitting the 2Gig limit on data extent.
NB: the last BI extent must always be non fixed
Disadvantages of Fixed Extents:
1. DISK SPACE
You have empty space, reserved "in advance"
When using OS tools to copy the database, instead of using "procopy", "prodb" or "probkup", you copy that empty space.
