SYMPTOM(s):

Windows XP distorts Dialog Boxes and Windows in applications

Applications run just fine under old versions of Windows

CAUSE:

On Windows XP, if you are not using the Windows Classic Theme, you
might run into DialogBox/Windows sizing issues. The reason for this is that
for XP, the caption size is larger than the caption size on other
Windows platforms. As a result, the offset for buttons or various
other GUI controls is off by the delta between the two caption sizes.

FIX:

You can either modify the window size, or move the GUI controls away
from the edge of the window. In either case you must recompile in
order for the changes to take effect.

Using the Windows Classic Theme on Windows XP machines avoids this
issue without requiring recompilation.
