SYMPTOM(s):

ProControl brings up command window when starting databases.

Additional command windows appear for each new remote server (_mprosrv) is spawned

CHANGE:

Logon property of the ProService account "allow service to interact with desktop" was selected for debugging of his scripts.

CAUSE:

Selecting the allow service to interact with desktop property will bring up the command window on startup of a database broker and any remote server processes it spawns.

FIX:

Do not allow the service to interact with the desktop. To change this setting:

Select start button on the desktop.
Select Settings.
Select Control Panel.
Select Administrative Tools.
Select Computer Management.
Select Services and Applications.
Select Services.
Select ProService for your Progress version.
Right click ProService and select stop.
Right click ProService and select properties.
Select the logon tab.
The default is selected to start up ProControl with the system account.
The default is for the Allow service to interact with desktop to be blank.
Deselect this property.
Start up ProService.
