AI header smashed or corrupted ( 3644 )

There is an error:

header smashed, block <block number>

that can be generated if a internal inconsistancy was
detected when attempting to write an AI block. This error
happens in a low level write call and is fatal to prevent
the AI file from being corrupted. More than likely it points
to an internal progress problem, but could be caused by a
hardware memory problem.

That error should cause a core dump from which a stack trace
would be helpful in trying to determine what the problem is.
It would also be helpful if we could get the database, .ai and
.bi file here to look at and help us to determine where the
problem occurs.

In version 7 the error is now:

SYSTEM ERROR: ai header corrupted, block <block number> (3644).

There were 2 Progress bugs which were involved with this error. The
latest patch for most platforms, does contain the fix. Please contact
Progress Technical Support to validate if the version of Progress
you are using contains this fix. If not a patch can be ordered for
your platform to address all known issues related to this error.
