Status: Unverified
FACT(s) (Environment):
Linux Intel
SYMPTOM(s):
System panics while running Progress.
Error in the /var/log/syslog file:
Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address <address>
CAUSE:
The exact cause is unknown. However it is apparent that there was a problem with some pointer in the Linux kernel.
No known Progress-related issue has been known for causing the whole system to panic, therefore it is very likely that the problem lays outside Progress.
Among the causes known to generate this error:
- Defective RAM.
- File system corruption.
- Progress-to-OS incompatibilities.
FIX:
Please verify that the Progress version and the Linux version are compatible (along with the kernel version) to rule out any problem on this front.
In case they are compatible, further research must be carried out on the Linux side.
