The Sonic client or Listener is a simple Java program that can use any database for application specific purpose such as storing user data. While engineering cannot specifically test the use of user DBMS's within sonic clients, there is no reason to believe there could be any incompatibility, especially if you are using simple client API's, like JDBC.
