GOAL:
How to allow two versions of Progress to coexist on the same Windows machine
FACT(s) (Environment):
Progress 8.x
Progress 9.x
OpenEdge 10.x
Windows
FIX:
To maintain more than one Progress version on your system, install intended version as described in Chapter 2, "Installing Progress,"with the following exceptions:
When you are prompted for a Destination Directory, make sure the directory you specify is not the same as for other installed versions. Type the pathname of a separate directory in which to install new version
When you are prompted for a Working Directory, make sure the directory you specify is not the same working directory as for other installed versions. Type the pathname of a separate directory in which to install new version
If two AdminServers are run concurrently then one of the AdminServers will need to be configured to run on a different port. See Progress solution P10465 for more information. Also keep in mind that any of the default processes Progress supplies within the Progress Explorer Tool (asbroker1, NS1, etc), they are also are configured with the same port numbers between the different versions of Progress.
Also make sure that there are no OS Environment Variables pointing to a specific Progress / OpenEdge version, for example the DLC, PROMSGS or PATH environment variables. Progres reads the required information from the Windows Registry or from the Progress .ini file.
