Is it possible to decrease the format of a field through incremental load

Progress/400 DataServer
FIX:
By loading an incremental df file for Progress/400 it is possible to 'decrease' the format of the field. However you will get a warning message indicating that only the format is affected but not the size of the field in the AS400 physical file.
