SYMPTOM(s):
Performance significantly slower on identical other server
Both servers are identical out the box HPUX 11i
Both Servers are dual connected to the same disks - so Progress is running from one physical location accessed by either server
Progress application never accessed by both servers at the same time
Progress resides in a large disk array with other programs, but there are no other databases
Progress is the only application that is shared memory, semaphore intensive
Of all the applications running on this architecture, it is only Progress that runs slowly when they switch with ServiceGuard to the slower server
Scripts to kill users and shut database down take 50% longer on slow server
FACT(s) (Environment):
HP-UX 11i 64-bit
kernel parameters are the same on both machines
raw i/o testing between the two hosts is the same
Backed up a large amount of data to the mount tape drive from both servers to prove that physical i/o to the array isn't the issue
Progress/OpenEdge Product Family
CHANGE:
firmware change in the Storage Area Network (SAN)
CAUSE:
components in the SAN are giving high error rates
FIX:
replace the faulty SAN components
