GOAL:

How to run Progress on a Russian Windows installation.

FACT(s) (Environment):

Progress 9.1D

CAUSE:

The default Windows configuration and the installed settings of Progress could prevent the correct characters from being entered and displayed correctly in a Progress session.

FIX:

Ensure the Windows default locale and keyboard are set to Russian. Check this in the "Regional settings" option from "Control Panel". Now check that any .pf file used at startup are using the correct codepage. For a Russian Windows install the codepage should be 1251. Finally check startup.pf in the Progress installation directory for any parameters that are not being specified on the command line, but could be using the wrong codepage setting. Again this should be 1251.

You should now be able to start the session with:

prowin32.exe -cpinternal 1251 -cpstream 1251 -cpcoll Russian

To enter Russian text you will need to select a font that supports Cyrillic, and select a Cyrillic script. For example in the Procedure Editor select Buffer->Font->Script. Remember not to change fonts 0 - 7.
After this you should be able to enter Cyrillic characters from the keyboard.
