GOAL:
Why does the database shutdown when disconnecting a dead user?
FACT(s) (Environment):
All Supported Operating Systems
Progress/OpenEdge Versions
FIX:
A user that is connected to a database though a shared memory connection may cause the database to shut down. If the process was changing shared memory when connection was teriminated, the shared memory is in an inconsistent state and the database is shutdown. When the database is restarted it will go through crash recovery to back out the transaction. This is to protect the integrity of the database.
