GOAL:
What cluster managers does Progress support?
GOAL:
Does Progress support clustering?
GOAL:
Does Progress support RedHat Cluster Manager when running on a RedHat Linux cluster?
FACT(s) (Environment):
RedHat Linux 7.2
Progress 9.1D
FIX:
Progress is only certified and supported for use with the cluster managers currently supported by the Fathom Clusters product - namely:
MSCS 5.0 for W2000 Advanced Server
TruCluster 5.1 for Compaq Tru64
HP ServiceGuard for HP-11
IBM HACMP for AIX
Sun Cluster 2.2 for Sun Solaris
There are no current plans for Fathom Clusters to support any Linux Cluster Manager.
The Progress RDBMS is not a cluster-aware application but can be configured to run in a shared disk configuration. Most clustering failover solutions rely on the shared disk configuration if failover on database-centric applications such as Progress is required. If that shared disk environment is managed and controlled by a cluster manager, there is no native integration between Progress itself and the cluster manager. The administration and configuration tasks needed to ensure failover of a Progress database within a clustered environment are the responsibility of the administrator for the cluster management software.
Thus, unless the Fathom Clusters product is used, it is up to each site to ensure that the cluster is configured correctly and that the cluster itself runs so that it is transparent for Progress (i.e. looks like one machine). We cannot support how Progress might interact with specific cluster management utilities, e.g. for running scripts.
