Installation on an Silicon Graphics Machine
When installing Progress on a Silicon Graphics machine, you may
see an error about byte swap when you attempt to issue the initial
cpio command. This means that you will have to use a tape device
that will not swap the bytes on the tape.
By default, SGI tape devices attempt to swap the bytes. Our tapes
for Version 7 were not created with swapped bytes so you must
use a different tape device.
To find out which tape device you use, based on the device that
does swap the bytes, try to find a device of the same name, ending
in "ns" for "no swap".
For example:
If you normally use /dev/rmt/tps0d1 to read a tape, and this results
in the byte swap error when reading a Progress tape, try to find
a device called /dev/rmt/tps0d1ns. Then retry the cpio command
using this device name.
NOTE: you will have to specify the no swap device during the
installation when you have the option to view or change the
installation devices. You will also have to specify the non rewinding
no swap device. Using the above example, the non rewinding no swap
device is: /dev/rmt/tps0d1nsnr.
