PROGRESS on SCO OPEN SERVER V5
27-NOV-1995
This knowledgebase entry notes the current status of PROGRESS on
SCO UNIX OPEN SERVER 5 which just recently become available from SCO.
The certification of version 7.3 on SCO Open Server 5 is complete.
There is a known problem in SCO OpenServer 5 with the system call
SO-REUSEADDR. A workaround to this issue has been implemented in
version 7.3C01 which now available for SCO UNIX. However, this
workaround is not a complete solution.
Customers running client/server on this operating system may
still be impacted by this issue. The problem occurs when a
non-Progress application binds to a port being used by Progress.
Users already connected to the database will not be impacted but
subsequent connection attempts by new users will fail and may result
in error messages or in hanging of the user's process.
Customers running with only local clients, even if the server was
started with -S <servicename>, will not be affected by the
SO_REUSEADDR issue. SCO is aware of the problem and is in the
process of providing a patch.
**********
This patch is now available. Apply the SCO Networking Supplement
Release 1.0 for SCO OpenServer Release 5. This supplement
corrects the behavior of setsockopt(SSC) with the SO_REUSEADDR option.
The Patch for Sco Open Server V is available from the SCO ftp site
ftp.sco.com
and is approximately 4 Megabytes in size.
**********
Version 6 for Open Server 5 has not been scheduled.
Customers wishing to upgrade to Open Server 5 will need to move to
7.3C01.
Customers having difficulty obtaining SCO 3.2.4.2 directly from SCO
can contact the SCO UNIX distributor, Merisel. The phone number for
Merisel is 1-800-MERISEL.
