FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows NT 32 Intel/Windows 2000
Progress 9.x
OpenEdge 10.x
SYMPTOM(s):
Progress Character Client
Character client does not accept mouse events
Mouse is not disabled for character client
CAUSE:
This occurs when the QuickEdit mode for the console window executing the character client is enabled.
This will cause the OS to capture any mouse events and use them for editing purposes such as text selection, and the mouse events are no longer passed to the character client running in the window.
FIX:
Disable QuickEdit mode for the windows shortcut starting the character client.
To do so:
- Right-click on the shortcut and choose Properties in the pop-up.
- Select the Options tab and under "Edit options" uncheck QuickEdit mode.
- Close the Properties dialog with the OK button.
- When prompted, select the "Modify shortcut that started this Window" option to ensure the change persists.
