ODBC Product Descriptions, tested product list & other req's
There are two different PROGRESS ODBC products for use with
Windows 3.1 and Win95 (v7.3C): the ODBC Driver and the ODBC DataServer
The PROGRESS ODBC Driver allows you to access data stored
in a PROGRESS database from other non-PROGRESS applications
such as MS-Word, Excel, etc. (Previously, only the PROGRESS
4GL and ESQL/C programs could access a PROGRESS database.)
To use the PROGRESS ODBC driver, you must have both the
driver and the PROGRESS database manager.
The PROGRESS ODBC DataServer allows you to access data
stored in other products from within PROGRESS 4GL applica-
tions. To use the ODBC DataServer, you must also have an
ODBC driver (*NOT* the PROGRESS driver) for the data source
you want to use and any other components that the particular
driver requires.
We are unable to test all possible combinations or versions
of ODBC aware products. So far, we have tested a few with
our driver and a few with our DataServer.
Other products may or may not work correctly with our ODBC
products, for any number of reasons (ambiguities in the
ODBC specification, different levels of ODBC, different
transaction and locking semantics, differing memory and
disk space requirements, etc.) We can only support those
who are using our DataServer and/or driver with certified
products. As time permits and the market demands, we will
test and support more products.
With 7.3B and 7.3C01, the ONLY supported products are:
For the PROGRESS ODBC Driver:
- MS-Access 2.0
- Visual Basic 3.0
- Microsoft Query 1.0
- MS-Word 6.0
- MS-Excel 5.0
- Paradox (Borland) 4.0
- PowerBuilder (Powersoft) 3.0A
- Crystal Reports 2.0, 3.0 & 4.0
- Lotus 1-2-3 (v7.3C01 Progress release only)
- Lotus Approach (v7.3C01 Progress release only)
For the ODBC DataServer (with their corresponding
software requirements):
- MS Access
MS-Access 1.0, 1.1, or 2.0. If you are accessing
the MS-Access 2.0, you need the MS ODBC Driver
Pack 2.0 Fulfillment Kit.
- Borland Paradox
Intersolv Driver Pack Version 2.0 or later,
Borland Paradox Engine and Database Framework
Version 3.0 or later.
- Borland dBaseIV
Intersolv Driver Pack Version 2.0 or later.
- Informix On-line
Intersolv Driver Pack Version 2.0 or later.
Informix INET-PC Version 4.1 or later (5.01 or
later is recommended).
