ODBC and Security issues; what we do (and do not) provide
Customers may call stating that they cannot find any information in
the ODBC manual about security with respect to our ODBC products.
There is something a user can do to implement security for their data
base. When you configure the ODBC connection information on the PC
client, one of the items you specify are PROGRESS connect parameters.
If you have enabled db security (i.e., established user IDs from
within the PROGRESS dictionary), then you also have to include
PROGRESS connect options -U (user id) and -P (password). This is
documented in the System Administration II: General manual for
PROGRESS Version 6, and in the System Administration Guide for
PROGRESS Version 7. Security can be implemented at the database
level and at the application level as well.
This is what PROGRESS offers for security. There may also be PC
specific security that can be setup BEFORE the connection is made
via ODBC, but this is not PROGRESS related.
