HP batch process hung - cannot kill batch or shutdown db
There is a known problem with the following disk drive.
Digital Equipment Corporation DSP3107LSW Direct Access disk drive
This type of disk drive has been known to be the cause of processes
hanging. Further investigation using HP's system monitoring tool
Glance indicates that the process is "blocked on inode". Once this
occurs, the process cannot be killed and the database cannot be
shutdown. In some cases, Unix can not shutdown cleanly, and the
machine has to be hard booted.
There is a patch that exists for this problem.
DEC Patch number: PHKL_5356
The reported problem was seen on a 1GB disk drive with 512 bytes per
sector.
Since this problem is related to the type of disk drive, it is not
limited to HP systems.
