GOAL:

Can a Progress client connect to a database through a serial port.

FIX:

No. The Progress client has no inherent capability of communicating through a serial port. Unless some third party program exists to bridge the functionality of TCP through the serial port, the Progress client would not be able to connect to the database.

More commonly, a telnet client makes a dumb terminal connection to a server and runs a Progress client on the server in self-service mode.
