Status: Technically Reviewed
FACT(s) (Environment):
HP Deskjet 560
SYMPTOM(s):
Unable to print using 'OUTPUT TO' 4GL statement.
Printer-status box opens but stops a 0%.
Printer-status box can only be closed by exiting Progress.
Other printjobs (such as those from Winword) report "printer busy".
CAUSE:
HP support (European center in the Netherlands) stated:
ALL HP DESKJETS BELOW 1200 SERIES ARE NOT DESIGNED TO BE USED IN NETWORKS. Even if you connect them to a local LPT1, but use a shared windows (from a server) they do not work, as the new drivers do a lot of interactive communication between printer and PC, which only works on stand-alone PC's.
FIX:
Using the standard Windows drivers for them (which are "much more primitive" and don't communicate) MAY work. Otherwise do not use these printers in a network.
