FACT(s) (Environment):

Windows NT

FACT(s) (Environment):

Progress 8.3B

SYMPTOM(s):

Object length error appearing at server:

The object length of an object returned by Extensible Counter DLL "...E\:<path>\ProPerProPerf8" for the "ProPerf8" service was not correct. The sum of the object lengths returned did not match the size of the buffer returned. Performance data returned by counter DLL will not be returned in the Perf Data Block. Count of objects returned is data DWORD 0.

CAUSE:

The NT Performance Monitor was designed so that developers could add performance counters for their own applications to the system. When Performance Monitor collects data it uses an extended object. This extended object in Progress' case is called Properf8.

FIX:

1. Check that the properf8 file in %DLC%\bin hasn't been mistakenly renamed. If yes, change the name back to "properf8"
2. If renaming doesn't work, reinstall the peformance counters as in Progress performance counters
