GOAL:
Is it better to have one single database or multiple databases on a single machine?
FACT(s) (Environment):
Progress 9.X
FIX:
Advantages of having one single database:
-Administration is easier
-The IO load can be balanced by managing multiple areas for given tables and indexes
-One single connection to one single database involves less network resource
-Gives the opportunity to enhance tuning of Mn (+) and Ma (-) without increasing the number of processes on the server
The impact on performance depends on the application. The best way to be sure about it is to test or involve consultancy.
