FIX:
The Bug# 20010629-019 issue, concerning 'hit end of record indicator before finding newly added fields', was introduced in Progress 9.1B patches and still existed in 9.1C (then fixed in later patches for both).
This error 'usually' indicates data corruption.
When addressing this issue in 9.1C, we advise upgrading/applying latest patch to rule out this bug before continuing investigations - as the data is (probably) NOT corrupt, the client merely cannot read the data relating to the table where the schema was updated. Applying the fix just allows the Client to now be able to read these records.
So, in direct answer: no this is not a known issue in Version 8.x
