Can a database field from a SmartDataObject which is defined as a logical be viewed as a toggle-box?

FIX:
Yes, it can. Simply delete the existing widget from the SmartDataViewer (if a widget exists) then drop a toggle-box widget on the SmartDataViewer from the palette. Once that is done go into the Property Sheet for the toggle-box widget and attached it to the appropriate field from the RowObject table.
