Status: Verified

SYMPTOM(s):

Getting SYSTEM ERROR: Bus error. (48) when trying to proserve database.

SYSTEM ERROR: Bus error. (48)

SYSTEM ERROR: Memory violation. (49)

Multiple versions of Progress installed

Scripts which start Progress have been heavily customized.

FACT(s) (Environment):

UNIX
Progress 9.x
OpenEdge 10.x

CAUSE:

Environment scripts were highly customized and caused conflict with newer versions of Progress.

FIX:

If you have multiple versions of Progress installed on your machine, please make sure that any environment scripts that you set do not set up global environment variables for Progress.

Progress 9.x uses many shared libraries which were not needed by earlier versions.
If Progress 9.x finds environment variables which point to earlier versions of Progress this might incorrectly define some of the environment variables for shared library paths.

Please review the $DLC/bin/slib_env script for information on newer environment variables in version 9 and some specific information based on operating system.
