1124 error on SCO - check for BIOS sector translation enable
** For more detailed information, on 1124 errors, please see kbase
number 15349 Debugging the causes of S/E 1124 **
If a customer calls stating that they are receiving error 1124 when
no data corruption, hardware problems, and the usual 1124 debugging
techniques fail to resolve the issue, check to see if they have
BIOS sector translation turned on. If so, they may need to turn it
off.
For sco unix systems, if using a pc on a controller, the BIOS sector
translation for DOS drives greater than 1 GIG MUST be disabled.
Evidently if you are running a unix system with that translation
turned on, it translates sectors so that DOS understands it, but
unix does its own translation.
Turning BIOS sector translation off may greatly reduce if not
eliminate the 1124 errors and may greatly increase performance, too.
If the customer has any questions regarding BIOS sector translation,
the vendor should be contacted.
