SYMPTOM(s):
proadsv -stop returns error (8546)
Failed connecting to AdminServer. Verify it is running. (8546)
proadsv -query returns error (8543)
AdminServer not alive. (8543)
proadsv -start returns Port 20931 is already in use. Please specify an alternate port with the -port argument.
AdminServer is, in fact, up and running
Issuing the UNIX "ps -ef | grep java" command results in Progress JAVA processes that have question mark signs besides them
CAUSE:
Progress JAVA processes went to defunct mode for some reason
FIX:
Kill those defunct JAVA processes before stopping and restarting the Progress AdminServer
