GOAL:

How to add a language to an existing Progress installation

GOAL:

Is it possible to add an additional language to an existing Progress installation without re-installing Progress ?

FACT(s) (Environment):

Progress 9.1x
All Supported Operating Systems

FIX:

The Progress installation utility requires that at least one language be installed. During installation a default language must be chosen.

It can be that a further language is required after the installation is complete, and that this language wasn't installed.

There is no way to add a language except by installing Progress into another location and then copying the contents of the required subdirectory from $DLC/prolang. For example, if you want to support Turkish, copy the contents of the directory $DLC/prolang/tur. Ensure that the relevant environment variables, e.g. PROMSGS, are then set pointing to the correct file.

Each subdirectory contains a promsgs file for the language that it represents, a .df file for each codepage, and an empty database that is marked with a codepage appropriate for the language. Some directories have more than one .pf file, because a language is used in more than one region. Although the language may be common to these regions, other customs, such as date or number format or collation, may be different and so other settings in the .pf file must be different.
