Why INNER-LINES is not supported on Motif COMBO-BOX
The INNER-LINES attribute is supported only on the MS-Windows and
character-mode platforms. This means that a Motif combo-box widget
will display all the items in its drop-down list when the list is
invoked, without providing a smaller, more manageable viewport like
that given on MSW and TTY.
The reason for this is that the Motif combo-box widget actually
uses a pop-up menu to create the drop-down list. Pop-up menus don't
support scrolling, so all items must be visible.
We may replace the native Motif combo-box widget with one of our own
in the future, but users should not look for this change to come any
time soon (in other words, not in any forthcoming version that is
scheduled for release.)
