FACT(s) (Environment):

Windows NT 4.0
Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Server Edition
Windows 2000
Windows 2000 Advanced Server
Windows XP
Progress 9.x

SYMPTOM(s):

Database name is correct.

Disconnected from server because database name was incorrect. (437)

Message is displayed at startup of a V9 Win32 database.

Problem only applies to client\server TCP connections.

CAUSE:

TCP port was in use by another TCP process.

FIX:

1) Verify that the name of the database is correct and that no other explanation
exists.

2) Next, check to see if the TCP port in question is active using the netstat
command below. For example, if the database is expected to use port 1234,
execute the following command: C:\netstat -a | more
and look to see if the port's status reads "LISTENING". If so, try to start
the database with another TCP port that is NOT in use.

3) If the TCP port in use MUST be used to start the database, use a 3rd party
utility to determine which process is actively holding that TCP port. A
FreeWare utility called "Active Ports" from Smartline, Inc. can downloaded from
the following Smartline web page: http://www.protect-me.com/freeware.html
