SYMPTOM(s):
ProControl fails to start
ProControl Error: 'Error 3 Communicating with ProService
The Windows NT and Windows 2000 errno.h file indicates
error 3: ERROR_PATH_NOT_FOUND
CAUSE:
The path to the Progress executable could not be located.
Typically the result of a bad installation or an unsuccessful uninstall.
FIX:
ProControl is a Win32 service which runs using the Progress "prosrvc.exe"
executable, its path is found in the following Windows registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentConrolSet\Services\ProService9.1x
(where "x" is A, B or C).
If this key is missing, or its path is incorrect, the error is likely
to occur.
If the path listed is incorrect the key can be modified to point to the correct path of the prosrvc.exe executable. If changing the path to the prosrvc executable does not resolve the problem manually remove this registry key, if it exists. Then re-install Progress, making sure you either perform a Complete installation, or choose ProControl as an option in the CUSTOM installation. After a successful re-install of Progress, verify that the registry key noted above is now correct. ProControl should now operate correctly.
