Progress 9.x
SYMPTOM(s):
Installation of V9 hangs on NTVDM.exe
setup.exe from V9 Progress installation CD-ROM doesn't respond
Task Manager shows NTVDM.exe was started and is consuming CPU time
CAUSE:
NTVDM.exe is a support file of 16-bit Application. Long PATH environment variable causes 16-bit Apps to hang.
FIX:
Reduce the length of the PATH environment variable or add the following line to the CONFIG.NT file to increase the environment size:
SHELL=%systemroot%\system32\command.com /e:2048
Then you will be able to run Progress setup.
