GOAL:

What do I enter when the installation asks the location of the webserver, but I have no webserver installed?

GOAL:

Why does the installation ask the location of the webserver, when WebSpeed is being installed.

FACT(s) (Environment):

WebSpeed
Windows NT 32 Intel/Windows 2000

FIX:

There are many components that are part of the WebSpeed Transaction Server license. One mandatory component is Messenger Component. This means that by default, when installing a typical and/or complete installation of WebSpeed Transaction Server the Messenger will also be installed. Since the Messenger runs off a webserver, a webserver also must be installed on the machine. This is acceptable with a local configuration where all components (Messenger, NameServer, Broker) will run on one machine, however, not ideal for a distributed configuration where all or some component are distributed between platforms and/or machines.

Unfortunately, on windows, the installation assumes that you are installing WebSpeed on the same machine as the WebServer. However, if no webserver is installed, you must pick a "bogus/random" directory to house the installation files even though no Web Server is installed.

Upon installing, select any random directory when asked the path of the scripts directory. The scripts directory usually resides off the webserver’s wwwroot directory. Or you can create a new directory before starting installation.

Since the installation does not verify if an actual webserver directory is installed, this type of workaround will trick the installation and allow it to move forward.
