GOAL:
Can I run Oracle Dataserver in a IBM AIX HACMP cluster environment?
GOAL:
What cluster managers does Progress support?
FIX:
Reliant HA 1.1.2 for clustering 9.1D on Unixware 7.1.1 is not
certified and hence not supported.
The only Cluster Managers that we officially support via Fathom High
Availability Clusters are:
Windows Advanced Server MSCS 5.0
Compaq TruCluster
HP-UX Service Guard
(IBM's HACMP and Sun's SunCluster Cluster Managers are planned to be
supported in Q1 03).
The Progress RDBMS is not a Cluster Aware application but can be
configured to run in a shared disk configuration. Most clustering
failover solutions (including Reliant) rely on the shared disk
configuration to failover database centric applications such as
Progress and Oracle 9i (Oracle 9i RAC does not rely on shared disk and
is VERY expensive).
Progress works in a shared disk environment but if that environment
happens to be managed and controlled by a cluster Manager, there is no
native integration between Progress and the Cluster Manager. The
administration and configuration tasks needed to ensure failover of a
Progress database within a Clustered environment are quite tricky and
complicated and the responsibilities fall down
to the Cluster Manager DBA. Fathom HA Clusters provides this native
Cluster Manager integration for key Cluster Managers. For more
information on Clustering in general check out the following faq:

Officially Reliant HA is not supported by Progress V9.1D but Unixware
7.1.1 is.
