Invalid shutdown request 541 - proshut permissions 6.3E & up
Users executing a database shutdown may report the following error:
Invalid shutdown request from <user-id> on <tty>. (541)
This message means that a user tried to shutdown the database server,
however the server was started by a different user. Only the
superuser (root) or the user that started the server can shut it down.
This functionality was implemented as a security feature.
Customers who want more than one user to be able to shut down a
database, but do not want those users to take on root privileges,
can set up a standard user account from which the database server(s)
can be started. Users can then "su" or log in to the standard account
in order to start up/shut down the database or disconnect users.
