Status: Verified
FACT(s) (Environment):
Progress 9.0x
Progress 9.1A
Progress 9.1B
SYMPTOM(s):
Local client process appeared to hang.
Kill -9 was issued against client process.
Forced shutdown initiated and db shutdown successfully.
BI file is growing large during crash recovery
9.1A does not support large files
_mprosrv process is still getting CPU
CAUSE:
BI file is growing due to Crash Recovery Process.
FIX:
Recommendation is to let it proceed through crash recovery. If BI file reaches 2GB, then you will need to add another bi extent to the database and start database again. This will initiate crash recovery again. Once crash recovery is completed then the bi file can be truncated.
If an additional bi extent was added due to the 2GB limit being reached on the first extent, then once crash recovery is completed, the subsequent extent can be removed.
