Status: Unverified
FACT(s) (Environment):
UNIX
Progress 6.3X
SYMPTOM(s):
Restoring a copy of an active database
Restoring copy of database to same file system but different directory
Running cpio copy of database from backup tape produces error
file-name is a copy of file-name, which is active. (603)
Original database running in multi-user mode during restore operation
CAUSE:
In earlier versions of Progress the inode number and the database name were combined to create a unique id for the database. The unique id made it impossible to have two databases with the same name on the same system.
FIX:
The problem only arises when the two databases have the same name.
Change the name of the copy of the original database.
